The Cutting Room Pew Episode 1: The Preaching Intro
Welcome to The Cutting Room Pew at Grace & Truth Church Cincinnati—a pastoral conversation about what might not make it into this week’s sermon, so you can prepare your heart for what does.
In our inaugural episode, Pastors Steve Ham and Ryan Leibert share why preaching is God’s ordained means of building His people (2 Timothy 3:15–4:5; Hebrews 4:12) and how to come ready to hear: pray in humble dependence, read the passage in context ahead of Sunday, arrive on time to worship and fellowship, listen actively with a tender conscience, and respond in obedience—talking it over with your family, taking notes, repenting where needed, and applying the Word throughout the week. Each week we’ll also bring you a few “cutting room” insights—truths tied to the text that didn’t fit into Sunday’s 45 minutes—to help you engage the living and active Word with anticipation.
We Discuss:
Why preaching matters: God has ordained preaching as the means to strengthen and shape His people by His God-breathed Word (2 Tim. 3:15–4:5; Heb. 4:12).
How to prepare through the week: Pray in dependence, read the passage in context, cultivate a tender conscience, and come on Sunday with anticipation.
How to listen as worship: Arrive on time, engage in the whole gathering, take notes, and keep asking, “Lord, what are You saying to me?”
How to respond after the sermon: Be doers of the Word—discuss it with your family, apply specific points, and share concrete encouragement with others (and your pastors).
